BREAKING NEWS: Eagles trade Zach Ertz

The Philadelphia Eagles have traded three-time pro-bowl tight end Zach Ertz to the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for former UCF cornerback Tay Gowan, who Arizona selected in the sixth round of the 2021 draft, and a 2022 fifth round pick.  Ertz will not be eligible to play this Sunday in the Cards big match up at Cleveland after playing in the Eagles week 6 Thursday night contest against the Bucs.

The 30-year-old Ertz had compiled 5 consecutive seasons of at least 70 receptions and 800 yards as a featured option in the Philly offense.  The relationship between Ertz and the Eagles soured when Philly seemed disinterested in offering Ertz a contract extension and Dallas Goedert emerged as a viable replacement for the standout tight end.  Ertz will be a featured weapon in an already dangerous Arizona offense led by early MVP candidate Kyler Murray.  No reports yet on whether Arizona will offer Ertz the extension he’s been looking for, but this is a great fit for restoring his value.
