Green Bay Packers @ Arizona Cardinals
Odds: Arizona -6.5, over/under 50.5
Weather: 76 degrees, 0% chance of precipitation, 4 MPH winds
The 6-1 Green Bay Packers head out west to take on the 7-0 Arizona Cardinals, the only undefeated team left in the NFL. Green Bay has won six in a row since losing their season opener 38-3 to the New Orleans Saints. They defeated the Washington Football Team 24-10 last week. Arizona is coming off a 31-5 victory over the Houston Texans.
Green Bay has been affected by COVID-19 as wide receiver Allen Lazard will not play, while star receiver Davante Adams is unlikely to play. Marquez Valdes-Scantling has been on injured reserve and could be activated for the game. If activated, Valdes-Scantling and Randall Cobb would be Aaron Rodgers’ top targets as well as tight end Robert Tonyan.
After a terrible start to the gear, Rodgers has looked like his normal self, averaging 250 passing yards per game. He has thrown for 15 touchdowns with three interceptions. He’s also scored two more touchdowns on the ground. Adams is by far Rodgers’ favorite target and his massive production will be missed if he isn’t cleared to play. Adams has 52 receptions for 744 yards and and three touchdowns. The second leading receiver on Green Bay is running back Aaron Jones with 26 receptions for 186 yards and four touchdowns. Lazard (184), Cobb (179) and Tonyan (155) have combined for six touchdowns.
Jones leads the ground attack with 89 carries for 404 yards and two touchdowns. Second year running back AJ Dillon has added 231 yards on 52 carries with two touchdowns.
Arizona quarterback Kyler Murray is a leading candidate for NFL MVP, averaging 304 passing yards per game with 17 touchdowns and five interceptions. He’s added another 126 yards on the ground with three touchdowns. Murray has spread the ball pretty evenly to his wide receivers with DeAndre Hopkins, Christian Kirk and AJ Green all topping 400 yards receiving. Hopkins has scored the most touchdowns with seven. Newly acquired tight end Zach Ertz made an instant impact with 3 receptions for 66 yards and a touchdown last week.
Chase Edmonds leads the team in rushing yards with 397 to James Connor’s 336, but Connor has carried the ball 89 times to Edmonds’ 68. Connor has also scored six rushing touchdowns to Edmonds’ zero. Edmonds is also a factor in the passing game with 27 receptions for for 172 yards.
Pass rushing specialist Chandler Jones is supposed to return for Arizona, but it sounds like they have lost defensive lineman JJ Watt with a season-ending shoulder injury.
Fantasy Impact
Two superstar wide receivers in Davante Adams and DeAndre Hopkins could miss this game with Adams being the more likely of the two being out. Adams is a huge part of Green Bay’s offense, but Rodgers is still an elite quarterback so Randall Cobb is the most likely benefactor of Adams’ absence. If Hopkins misses the game, AJ Green and Christian Kirk will be the focus as well as Rondale Moore and Zach Ertz getting increased targets.
